The Museum of Contemporary Art Busan (MOCA Busan) announced that Joel Sartore’s “You will miss me when I am gone” exhibition will be open to the public between September 26, 2022, and January 5, 2023. This will be the third exhibition, following exhibitions from artists Moon Kyung-won & Jeon Joon-ho and Cho Seoung-ho at the “Busan Station-Eurasian Platform Media Wall.”

The work exhibited on the Busan Eurasian Platform Outdoor Media Wall from September 26 is part of the “Photo Ark,” which shows the Ark of Life for Animals. It attempts to portray animals that have already become extinct as well as endangered animals that may permanently disappear at the end of the century. MOCA Busan is carrying out the project through digitalized photos and images in cooperation with the Busan Infrastructure Corporation until January 5, 2023.

The project, showing approximately 12,000 species of living things from around the world, is created through the eyes of the artist, who loves animals beyond just recording their images. Each living thing seen on the screen is a valuable record in the era of proving one’s existence and presents a dictionary of ecological treasures through their images.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources reported that about 50% of animals that coexist with humans, half of all animal species, will perish by the year 2100. MOCA Busan expects to alert citizens to the earth’s environmental problems through National Geographic’s campaign, which is based on accurately remembering extinct and endangered animals and Joel Sartore’s works.

The displayed works consist of three channel images (videos) that are focused on animals’ true images without the surrounding environment. Living things with diverse expressions, motions, and sizes are expected to become messengers awakening the value of life and offering visual pleasure to citizens.
